Essay Two

One Thursday night I was playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends here in Vermillion, SD. The game is simple and yet complex. The game consists of four players minimum: one game master or dungeon master and the three players who have characters. The maximum of players to about nine in total: one dungeon master, eight players who have characters. The materials for the game is simple it consists of paper, pencil, and the most important element is dice. Every week we have a game session that tends to last at least 7 hours long if not that longer; in this session we are fighting in a sense the devil, but not truly. There are five of us in total; I’m a vampire named Kit and she is pretty fast and two heavy revolvers and two rapiers. The other characters are: another vampire, a human mage, and a werewolf. The other vampire is different from me; by comparison he is much prettier than I am and he tends to use a mind effects to confuse the enemy. The human mage is basically an idiot and sometimes knows what he is doing he casts spells to attack. Finally the werewolf, I like him the most because he is the strongest in our group. When we first start in battle the first we go is to determine who goes first. We do that by rolling our d10 dice, d10 means the die has 10 sides on it and we go on from there. Now with Dungeons & Dragons it is best to role-play the characters so at one point during the battle I ran out of bullets so I dropped my guns and pulled out my swords. While I was doing that I said to my enemy, “Eat my steal swowds.” After I said that my face became really flushed because I realized I messed on the simple word of sword. Later on I was thinking that moment reminded me when I was kid and was not even able to pronounce my R’s at all. I also realized that the speech therapist used games to help me learn my R’s better. I always wonder why speech therapists use games to help their clients to able to learn to pronounce words more properly.

Kathy,

There is a good start here. I think the thesis statement will work well with further exploration. Right now the draft does not explore why speech therapists use games, but rather discusses the game itself. I think, as an intro to a paper, this draft would work quite well. I am not sure it is quite there yet. Don't worry about this overmuch at this point. We still have a number of drafts to work on and bring everything together.
